One of the most important components of operating a successful Junior “A” hockey franchise is providing comfortable homes for our players. It is very important to us as an organization, to provide a positive, family environment for our players, most of whom are miles away from their own families. For players not attending school, we will help the boys find part time employment and also encourage them to take part in volunteer activities in the community. Campus Manitoba has a variety of courses which can be taken through correspondence or attended here in Portage. In their billet’s homes, players are expected to share in household chores, do their own laundry, maintain their own rooms, and if their billets are away or at work, they may be expected to look after their own meals.
The experience of having a billet is very positive. Families throughout the Portage and surrounding area have taken in players for several years and developed long lasting friendships.
