The Portage
and District TERRIERS Hockey Club Inc. has a proud 69-year
history. With the exception of the years 1945 -1967, when
the TERRIERS took a leave of absence, the Portage and
District TERRIERS have represented Portage in the Manitoba
Junior Hockey League.
Only three teams in Canada have won both the MEMORIAL CUP and
the CENTENNIAL CUP. As part of the Manitoba Hockey League,
the 1942 Portage and District TERRIERS won the MEMORIAL CUP
and as part of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, the 1972
Portage and District TERRIERS won the CENTENNIAL CUP. Only
the Prince Albert Raiders and the Guelph Storm can make the
same claim of winning both National titles. |

of only two Junior "A" hockey teams from Manitoba to win the
MEMORIAL CUP; the other being the Flin Flon Bombers. This
TERRIERS team is also one of only two teams, in Manitoba, to
win the CENTENNIAL CUP, with the second team being the rival
Selkirk Steelers.
As players strive
to bring another Championship to the City of Portage la
Prairie, they continue to add to the history of a winning
franchise. |
