Around the Pound: 2025-26 Season Wrap Up

It’s hard to believe that the 2025-26 Portage Terriers’ season has come to a close. After finishing the regular season 3rd (39-18-1) in the MGEU East Division, the Terriers had a first round matchup with the 2nd place (47-9-2) Steinbach Pistons. The Terriers fell in the best of seven quarter final series four games to one, with the final game being played on March 28 in Steinbach.

The Terriers won game one 3-2, with Logan Cunningham making 36 saves as the player of the game. The Pistons then rebounded to win four straight games by scores of 4-2, 6-2, 5-3 and 2-0. Portage was able to get all of their 20-year-old netminders into the series. Cunningham also started games 2 and 5, Donavan Bodnar started game 3 and Ryan Velan game 4.

Adam Belzil led the Terriers in playoff scoring with four points. Owen Witt was right behind him with three assists and played crucial minutes on the blue line. Witt was named the Terriers’ playoff MVP.

The Terriers also hand out the Portage Automotive Playoff Performer award to the player who had a great individual performance. This year it went to Cunningham, who kept the Terriers in the game in each of his three starts. His award came with $100 in merchandise courtesy of Portage Automotive.

The Portage Terriers were proud to have eight graduating players on their team this season: Adam Belzil, Donavan Bodnar, Logan Cunningham, Breck Hirrschoff, Edward Knittig, Rhett Platt, Ryan Velan, Owen Witt.

On Friday, March 27, the Terriers did the grand prize draw for the Gigantic 50/50. The final pot ended at $59,250, which means that the winner, Terry Szoradi, takes home $29,625. Thank you to everyone who supported by buying a ticket!
