Around the Pound: February 23, 2026

The Portage Terriers have been firing on all cylinders over the past two weeks and are riding a five game winning streak. The Terriers had a pair of wins over the Selkirk Steelers, two against the Northern MB Blizzard and one against the Winnipeg Monarchs. With the win on Feb. 20, the Terriers officially clinched a playoff spot. The playoffs will be here before you know it as the Terriers only have five home games left in the regular season.

The Terriers will have a tough test this week when they visit the number one ranked Niverville Nighthawks. The game will be broadcast on 920AM CFRY. The Terriers then host Swan Valley on Saturday (Feb. 28) and visit Dauphin on Sunday (Mar.1).

Congratulations to Ben Albers and Dylan Karran who both scored their first MJHL goal in the game against Selkirk on Friday.

Terrier Captain Owen Witt was recognized before the game on Feb. 20, as the RBC Community Ambassador for the Terriers.

COMMUNITY

The Portage Terriers held their annual Louis Riel game in partnership with the MB Metis Federation on Feb. 16. Special jerseys were worn and auctioned off with proceeds going to support Metis Cultural Programming. Almost $5,000 was raised! Prior to the game a tribute was held for Metis hockey player and Terrier alumni Adam Calder. Terrier goalies Donavan Bodnar and Logan Cunningham were also presented with a sash from the MMF.

After the game the Terriers held a community skate and released their annual hockey cards! If you haven’t had a chance to get a team set of cards yet, you can pick them up from the Terrier office.

The Gigantic 50/50 kicked off on Feb. 16 with the pot guaranteed at a minimum of $50,000! That means the winner will take home at least $25,000. The First early bird prize was given away to Brenda Simard on Friday (Feb. 20). Tickets are available at Terrier home games, the Terrier team store when open, and online at www.gigantic5050.com.

The Terriers have been busy reading at different schools for “I Love to Read Month”. We have visited Elm River Colony, Fort la Reine School, Good Hope Colony and Westpark School! More stops to come!

We are only two weeks away from our Ag Appreciation night at Canad Inns on March 6! Individual tickets are available for the community to purchase at $125 each. Email portageterriers@outlook.com if you are interested! It’s going to be a great night!
