Get To Know Aiden Sotas

The Portage Terriers selected seven players in the 2020 MJHL Bantam draft on Sunday April 26th. Their first pick, 10th overall, was Aiden Sotas of the Yellowhead Chiefs in the Manitoba AAA Bantam hockey league.

Sotas was at his home in Birtle, MB when he heard the news. “I’m excited, I was sitting in my living room with my parents watching the website. I kept refreshing [the website].”

He is honoured to be selected in the first round. “It feels good to be among the top players in MB, but I don’t want to get too confident. I want to keep going, stay humble and work hard.”

Like all the other players selected on Sunday, Sotas isn’t eligible to enter the MJHL until the 2021-22 season at the earliest. With still some time to develop he talks about his focus. “I want to keep working on everything, mostly on making better plays and my strength.”

The Terriers were pleased with all their draft picks and they feel that Sotas will fit in well in the organization. “He is a good hockey player and plays well in all three zones,” says scout Angus Moar. A big (6’2”) right-handed centre, Sotas had 29 points (19G 10A 86 PIM) in 33 games for the Chiefs. He is a player who works hard, is aggressive and has good hands.

Sotas was also selected 198th overall by the Portland Winterhawks in the WHL Bantam draft on April 22nd.
