Tonight the Canadian Blood Services will be on hand to kick off Hockey Gives Blood in the MJHL with the Portage Terriers.

Hockey Gives Blood is an initiative that started with the Humboldt Broncos Tragedy. In partnership with Canadian Blood Services, they endeavour to promote blood donation as an integral component of hockey programs social and community responsibility.

Their vision to reduce blood shortages nationwide while creating a lasting commitment towards blood donation throughout the hockey community is something the Terriers really wanted to get on board with.

“There was no hesitation on our organizations part when we were approached by Canadian Blood Services to bring this initiative to the MJHL. We were all touched in some way by the tragedy that happened in Humboldt last season and this is a small way that we can all give back to the hockey community along with our own communities. We are hoping to see other MJHL teams follow our lead.” – Marketing Director Heather Jordan

Tonight the Terriers welcome the OCN Blizzard to Stride Place for 7:30pm puck drop. Steve Raizen Territory Manager, Donor Relations for Canadian Blood Services will be on hand to sign up new donors as well as offer a wealth of information on how you can get involved. The hope is to sign up new donors that will continue to give.

As our guest tonight, the Terriers will also be welcoming Milestone donor Dennis Wiens. Dennis is already scheduled for his 168th blood donation.

Did you know in 2018, about 100,000 new blood donors will be needed to give life, replacing the aging donor base and maintain the national blood supply

Males aged 17-35 are needed. You have the power to give life.
