Louis Riel Day A Success!

One of the largest crowds of the season poured into Stride place on Monday afternoon for the Louis Riel Day Classic between the Portage Terriers and the Selkirk Steelers.

The Terriers partnered with the Manitoba Metis Federation for the game which included music and entertainment from Jason Lepine & the Metis Spirit band, The Metis Prairie Steppers, and Krista Rey.

Before puck drop Metis Terrier forward Kyan Grouette was presented with a Metis sash from Minister Will Goodon and Chairman Wes Hannah.

The Terriers were wearing custom jerseys that were auctioned off in support of the MMF’s youth programming. Over $4000 was raised.

After the game the Terriers held their annual Tim Hortons skate with the Terriers. The Canadian Tire hockey cards were released in the lobby and were signed by a number of the players.

Terrier marketing director Cody Buhler was happy with how the event went. “We love seeing the large crowd and were excited this year to add the Metis music and jerseys. We hope to continue to make this event bigger and better going forward.”
