Portage opens Showcase with the Win

Terriers celebrate win over Selkirk.

Portage wins the opening game of the MJHL Showcase with a decisive 7-2 win over the Selkirk Steelers.

The first period was off to a slow start as both teams traded chances without success. It wasn’t until the 18:08 mark of the first when Leipsic fed Brakel the perfect pass to beat Dola shorthanded for the 1-0 lead heading in to the 2nd period.

Selkirk was able to even things up early in the second with a goal from Halverson, but the Terriers ran away with it after that.

“We skated really good and played a fast game, and we got pucks to the net and it resulted in a few goals for us.” – Assistant Coach Paul Harland

Thomson, Leipsic and McIsaac would all score for the Terriers in the second to pad the Terriers lead to 4-1 after forty minutes.

Scoring continued in to the third with Sokoloski burying on the powerplay and ending Dola’s night in net for the Steelers. Sokoloski then set up Enns with a patient pass for the 6-1 lead. Former Terrier Ezra Hall beat Aiken on the wrap around when the Terriers lost the puck behind their own net, but it wouldn’t factor. Cox scored at 17:59 for a 7-2 final over Selkirk.

Aiken picked up the win in net for the Terriers making 26 saves in the effort.

The Terriers next game is Wednesday December 14th at 7:00pm versus the Dauphin Kings.
