Portage Pulls off 3rd Straight Win

In another close game of back and forth the Terriers come out on top in their first meeting of the season with the Selkirk Steelers.

Selkirk came out strong in the first and jumped out to the early lead Ryan Piwniuk beating Moore just 3:38 in on the powerplay. Selkirk doubled their lead 10 minutes later when Connor Barley slipped the defensive hit, waited out the sliding D and made the pass for Brett Namaka to bang it home.

With 42 seconds left in the period Sheldin Howard scored with a shot from the slot for his 5th of the season to bring the dogs within one.

Portage tied the game a minute into the first Funk tipping in a Van Deynze point shot. They would soon take their first lead of the game with Billaney winding up from the hash marks and burying in his first game back from suspension.

Brett Namaka scored his 2nd of the game on the powerplay to notch the game at 3, however the tie was short lived as Billaney scored his second of the game and Mac Walkington scored his 4th in 3 games.

Down 2 coming into the third, Brett Namaka completed the hat trick for Selkirk to once again make it a one goal game. Portage controlled play in the third, but both teams capitalized on the powerplay, Barnstable with a missile from the left hand side and Barley with a wrist shot.

Selkirk pulled their goalie with 2:09 left in an effort to draw even, but Buchholz dashed their hopes with the empty netter.

Portage wins their 3rd in row, and goes 3 for 6 on the powerplay. Moored picking up the win with 35 saves.

The Terriers will be looking to redeem themselves as they welcome Steinbach to Stride Place tomorrow night, game time 7:30pm.  Game Day sponsor EF Moon.
