Portage Terrier Dean Stewart Player to Watch

The NHL published their preliminary central scouting report today and Portage’s own Dean Stewart made the list.

Identified as a C rated player ( indicates a 4th/5th/6th round candidate ) 17 year old local talent Stewart didn’t know what to think. Stewart was in class when his phone started to blow up.

” The first text I got was a picture of the list from a friend. At first I had no idea what I was looking at until I started receiving more and more congratulations messages. “

When asked what making the list meant to him, the always humble Stewart just smiled. ” It’s always exciting to be recognized for doing something you love, but I’m not going to read too much in to it. Don’t get me wrong though, it’s pretty cool. “

Coach and GM Blake Spiller didn’t seem too surprised to find the 17 year old’s name on the list. ” Dean is deserving to be on Central Scouting. He has a lot of upside as he continues to get stronger. He definitely has the potential to play at a high level. “

Stewart talked about looking forward to this season as one of only 5 returning players from last year’s National Championship team.  ” This year I want to help lead the guys in to the playoffs. I think we have another great group of guys with some chemistry both on and off the ice and I’d love to see us win another championship. “

The Terriers are off to a great start this season having won both their regular season games against the Virden Oil Capitals. The Terriers are back at it tomorrow night at the PCU vs The Neepawa Natives, game time 7:30pm.
