Portage Wins 4th Straight

The Portage Terriers shrugged off an early deficit to beat the Waywayseecappo Wolverines 5-2 Friday night at Stride Place. Portage has now won four straight games and seven of their last nine.

The Wolverines jumped out to the lead when Logan Wotton scored in the first two minutes. Liam Stevens was making his second start in net for the Terriers when he left the game with injury after Wotton’s goal. Jayden Catellier came into the game in relief and let in a goal four minutes later while the Wolverines were on the power play. He would settle down after that finishing the night with 31 saves. Mason Smith responded for Portage late in the first period to cut the Waywayseecappo lead in half.

Portage started to play better in the second period and eventually tied the game. Matt Wisener hit Daniel Siso with a perfect pass as he was cutting to the net and he made no mistake beating Wolverine goalie Liam Tereposky.

Terrier captain Logan Calder banged home his team leading 16th goal of the season early in the third period to give Portage their first lead of the game. The Terriers continued to pour on the pressure and Dylan Winsor was able to knock in his first of the season midway through the period. With time winding down Smith added an empty net goal to seal the victory.

Portage finished the night 0/3 on the power play while waywayseecappo was 1/4. The Terriers will now visit the Wolverines on Saturday night at 7:30 pm.
