Portage Wraps up 2017 with a Win

The Terriers sit alone in second place in the standings after last night’s win over the Winnipeg Blues.

It took an extra :37 to pick up the 2 points at the Bell MTS Iceplex in the Terriers’ last game before the break, but Captain and soon to be Cornell University Red Dog Chase Brakel scored his 2nd of the night to wrap up the first half of the season.

In the first 20 minutes, the Blues were beating the Terriers to pucks and subsequently outshot the reigning champs 15-9, but the dogs came away with a 1-0 lead thanks to a goal from Braden Billaney.

In the second Cody Behun tied the game at one, scoring on an end board rebound with 1 second left in the powerplay. Brakel restored the Terriers’ lead picking up his first of the night just 26 seconds later.

MacGillivray tied the game at 2 on a misplayed puck in front just over halfway through the 3rd. With 2:29 left on the clock, former Terrier Brendan Kochanski took a 5 minute major for hitting from behind, but the Terriers were unable to capitalize in regulation.

Petersen makes a huge save on Behun with just over 3 minutes to go in the third to keep the game at 2 apiece.

With a 4 on 3 advantage heading in to the extra frame,  37 seconds was all it took for the Terriers to wrap things up, Brakel finding mesh on a pass from McIsaac.

Petersen picks up his second win in as many nights facing 40 shots.

Portage returns in the new year on the road to face OCN January 5th.

The Terriers Organization would like to wish all our fans and sponsors a very safe and happy holiday season. We hope to see you at the rink in the new year!
