Steelers Shutout Terriers

A couple of defensive giveaways in their own end were the Terrier’s undoing in this game, as they fell 3-0 to the Selkirk Steelers.

A two-on-none for Selkirk created the first goal of the game, as goaltender Mitchell Kathler was given little help. 1-0 Selkirk after the first period.

The second period didn’t see any goals, as the two teams exchanged chances, with the shots ending up 20-16 in Portage’s favour.

Selkirk would add a pair of goals in the first two minutes of the third period, making it 3-0 with 18 minutes and 20 seconds left to go. Portage would create a few chances, but were unable to crack the Steelers netminder, Noel Olsonawski, who recorded his first shutout of the season.

Terriers’ captain Parker Scherr notes that he believes there is work to do, but also positives to carry with them.

“I think we had our chances. We were in it the whole way. I think we just need to focus on bearing down, putting pucks on the net, and I feel like eventually, the bounces are going to have to go our way and the goals will come.”

The Terriers will look to right the ship on Friday, October 4, when they head up to Dauphin to take on the Kings. Puck drop in that game will be 7:30 p.m.
