PORTAGE, October 2, 2025 – The Portage Terriers have started their second season with alumni Jason Kasdorf as the new goaltending coach.
Kasdorf had an amazing two seasons with the Terriers from 2009-2011. He backstopped the Terriers to an ANAVET Cup win over the La Ronge Ice Wolves (SJHL) in 2011 and was drafted in the 7th round by the Winnipeg Jets. He then played a season with the Des Moines Buccaneers (USHL) before moving on to 4 seasons at RPI (NCAA DIV I). He played a game with the Buffalo Sabres in 2016 and then played 63 games between the AHL and ECHL over 3 seasons.
Now that his playing career has wrapped up he has decided to come back to the Terriers.
“I got a call from Paul Harland and he said that my old goalie coach Jimmy Tkachyk retired and that they were looking for someone. I talked it over with them what it would look like and I talked with my family. I want to help the team that has done so much for me and I wanted to give back in a way that I could.”
Playing with so many teams over the years, he has learned quite a few different techniques.
“You know, having so many goalie coaches with so many styles, I think a big thing for me is just being there for my goalies. Being an emotional support. Someone they can talk to that they feel they can have an open conversation with. They can come to me with any issues and not feel like I’m running to the coaches. You build that trust and it goes a long way.”
He is still in contact with many of those coaches today. “Obviously the Winnipeg Jets’ goalie coach I still see quite a bit when I skate with them. He’s been following along with the Terriers too and asking questions. I’m always asking him questions too just picking his brain and getting advice. Also my old coach from RPI (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute), we stay in touch a bit. I also see Jimmy every once in a while here in Portage.”
Welcome back to the Terriers, Jason!
