Portage Terrier assistant captain Rhett Platt has committed to play for the University of Regina for next season. The 20-year-old forward (6’2, 190) had a breakout season in 2025-26 with the Terriers, leading the team in scoring with 23 goals and 47 assists for 70 points.
The Regina, SK, product if looking forward to playing for his hometown school. “I chose the U of R because I wanted to play at the highest level of hockey I could, while still prioritizing my education,” says Platt. “I have been taking classes at the University of Regina through out my junior career so it will be an easy transition and being at home around family and friends is always an added bonus.”
Acquired at the trade deadline in 2025 from the Virden Oil Capitals, his time in Portage has helped him make the jump to the next level. “Without Portage I wouldn’t be in this position today. I had the best teammates, coaching staff and billets anyone could ask for. Coming back as a 20-year-old the coaching staff really believed in me to take that next step and gave me opportunities to have this breakout year.”
Platt now focuses on the future. “I want to do all I can to get the Cougars back in the playoffs. I think I can fit into a lot of different roles and bring an immediate impact into the lineup.”
