Terriers Hold Successful Training Camp

PORTAGE, September 5, 2025 – The Portage Terriers wrapped up their annual Fall Training Camp powered by Booster Juice this weekend at Stride Place.

Over 60 rookie hopefuls from across North America were split into three teams and then took to the ice on Friday night for a practice with their squad. On Saturday each team played two games trying to impress the Terrier scouts and coaching staff.

In the evening Saturday cuts were made and the remaining rookie players were joined by the veteran players for the main camp.

Returning forward Dawson Madden was happy to be on the ice. “It’s really good to be back. I’m excited to get the season underway. I hope we can have a strong season, and I can contribute to the team winning. I love being around the guys and I look forward to that again.”

Returning Terriers like defenceman Daine Dellezay arrived in Portage earlier in the week. “I missed Portage,” said Dellezay. “I’m looking forward to getting back on the ice with the team.”

Terrier goalie Ryan Velan had a special summer getting to train with his hometown Montreal Canadiens. “It was an unreal experience getting to skate with them five days a week. You can see how good they really are when you are on the ice with them, You also realize that they are just regular guys off the ice.”

He is excited to see what the Terriers can do on the ice this year. “I think we have a tight nit group coming back, and we all have the same goal of winning.”

The Terrier rookies will take to the ice at Stride Place on Tuesday night at 7:30pm for the first preseason game against the Virden Oil Capitals. Tickets are $5 at the door. Season ticket holders, Flex Pass holders and Kids Club members get in for free.
