Terriers Announce Leadership Group

PORTAGE, September 18, 2025 – The Portage Terriers have named their leadership group for the upcoming season.

20-year-old veteran Owen Witt will assume the “C” as he enters his third season with the club. The veteran is the longest active serving Terrier and is grateful to get this recognition

“It’s an honour to be named captain, being my third year here I’m really excited to be a leader and end my junior career here,” says Witt. “Just like any other season we’re trying to win it all. We got a little taste of winning in the playoffs last year, but none the less, we’re trying to win the championship.”

Forwards Adam Belzil and Rhett Platt have been named the assistant captains.

Both Belzil and Platt are 20 years old heading into their final season of junior hockey and were part of last year’s squad that made it to the second round of the playoffs.

“It feels good, but It’s not about me its about the team,” explains Belzil.” I think we have a great leadership group to lead the younger guys.”

“We have a younger team this year,” says Platt. “It’s important for us older guys in the leadership group to set a good example. It’s a very historic franchise and we want to keep that legacy going. Hopefully we can get a Turnbull Cup this year.”

The Terriers start the season on Saturday in Neepawa against the Titans. They then host Neepawa on Sunday in the home opener at Stride Place at 6:30pm.
