Terriers blank Blues in Season Opener

The Terriers 50th Anniversary is underway as they opened their season tonight on the road against the Winnipeg Blues.

The Terriers came out strong in the first testing Gnidziejko early before having to kill off a 4 minute high sticking penalty to Turner Santin. Portage was able to keep the Blues to the outside and only allowed 4 shots. The period ended with no score.

The Blues scored first 8:22 in to the second, but the goal was disallowed for goalie interference. Winnipeg picked up back to back minors 2 minutes later and Chase Brakel made the most of it, scoring the first of the season one timing a Leipsic pass in the slot for the only goal of the frame.

Gnidziejko was solid in net keeping the Blues in the game for the first 40 minutes, but the Terriers proved too much for them in the end. Leipsic, McIsaac and Ripplinger would all add markers of their own for a 4-0 final. Brock Aiken picking up the shut out in his first outing making 23 saves.
