Terriers change up their blue line

Today is the MJHL trade deadline and the Terriers are making some changes to their roster.

Portage has traded the CJHL playing rights of Jordan Thomson D 96 to the Virden Oil Capitals in exchange for Cole Oliver D 97 and future considerations.

Oliver a Melita native has suited up the last 2 seasons for the Oil Capitals. In 52 games played last season, the veteran defenceman combined for 18 points and 124 penalty minutes.

Assistant coach Paul Harland describes Oliver as a physical defenceman who plays hard.

All MJHL teams need to cut their rosters to 23 or less by 8pm this evening.

“We pretty much decided that we’re going young,” admits Harland. “We’re a young team, and we’ve got a lot of talent. So if there’s an opportunity to add some grit or a veteran presence in guys that have been in the league but aren’t 20-year-olds, we may do that or we may add a 20-year-old too. It’s going to depend on what the asking price is and what we want to get in return.”
