The Portage Terriers’ six game win streak came to an end with a 5-1 loss at the hands of the league-leading Niverville Nighthawks.
A pair of early powerplay goals were hard to overcome for the Dogs, as Niverville was a perfect 2/2 with the man advantage in the first frame.
Affiliated player, Dylan Russell, notched his second of the season midway through the second period during a scramble in front of the net, to make it 2-1.
The comeback attempt would be short lived as Niverville notched three more goals in a one minute span, ending the period up 5-1.
The Dogs will be back on the ice with the Skills competition on Saturday night at 6:30pm, and then their final regular season game on Sunday evening against the Winnipeg Monarchs. Puck drop will be at 6:30pm as well.
Prior to the game Terrier captain Owen Witt was awarded the MJHL’s “Brian Kozak” Top Defenseman award, and Trevor Hill received the “Kim Davis” Rookie of the Year award from league commissioner Kevin Saurette.
