The Portage Terriers ended their two game losing skid on Sunday night, beating the Winnipeg Blues 4-1 at Stride Place.
The teams traded goals in the first period with the Terriers scoring first. Edward Knittig would pot his second in as many nights, and the Blues would respond just under seven minutes later, to tie it at 1-1 after 20 minutes.
Knittig says that he’s glad to be contributing while adjusting to the new squad.
“It’s good, getting the team figured out, gelling with the boys, so everything’s going pretty good so far.”
Portage would add a pair of goals in the following frame, as Victor Proulx and Wyatt Dreger would notch goals, Proulx’s being his fourth, and Dreger’s third. Dreger’s marker would also be the Terriers’ second powerplay goal on home ice this season.
Jonah Lemoine contributed three assists in the game, and notes what was different for him.
“I felt like I have been making plays, but I just haven’t been getting bounces. But it’s good to help the team out in some way.”
Trevor Hill continued his hot start to the season in the third period, scoring on the power play from a sharp angle. He leads the team with eight goals. Donovan Bodnar shut down the Blues the rest of the way, finishing the night with 18 saves.
Bodnar notched his second win of the season and adds that it felt like a more complete effort for the team.
“It feels good to finally get what feels like a more clean win, too, you know, didn’t really give up any unnecessary goals at the end. I thought we finished the game hard and still had a good third and I thought we could have made that game 6, 7-1 at the end too, so it’s good.”
The Terriers are back in action on Thursday in Virden against the Oil Capitals.
