Terriers go one and one with Virden in the pre-season

The Terriers fell to the Oil Capitals 5-2 last night in Virden in their second game of the exhibition season.

Reilly Funk opened the scoring for the Terriers at 14:30 of the first with helpers from Mihalcin and Doyle. With less than a minute to go, Virden’s veteran defenceman Thiessen would find the back of the net and send the teams to intermission tied at one.

The Oil Caps blew the game open in the second scoring 3 from Belcher, Magwood and Skulmoski for a 4-1 lead after 40 minutes.

Dylan Thiessen scored his second of the night beating Benoit from the slot for a 4 goal stretch.

Things got rough in the 3rd after some shoving in front of McVeigh after the whistle which saw multiple ejections from the game. Portage’s Cody Thompson scored a beautiful powerplay goal from the top of the circle for a 5-2 Virden final.

Brock Aiken started in net for the dogs and faced 19 shots making 17 saves. Benoit played the last 2 minutes and made 16 saves on 19 shots.

The Terriers head to Winnipeg to face the Blues on Thursday for their 3rd game of the pre-season.
