Terriers Grab 6th Straight Win

The Portage Terriers picked up their sixth win in a row on Saturday night, beating the Winnipeg Blues 6-3 at Stride Place.

Portage jumped out of the gate in the first two minutes with goals from Matt Wisener and Austin Peters. Daniel Siso added his fourth of the season midway through the period. After going up by three the Terriers let off the gas. With less than four minutes to go Michael Tanchak and Brycen Gair both found the back of the net to draw within one. 3-2 Portage after 1.

The Terriers got into some penalty trouble midway through the second period, but the Blues couldn’t tie the game. An uneventful second period kept the score at 3-2 Terriers.

Matt Wisener struck again in the opening seconds of the third period. Jack Kaiser responded for Winnipeg to bring them back within a goal. Jamie Valentino put the game out of reach on the power play with a shot that trickled through Brock Moroz. Hayden Chaloner batted a loose puck home late in the third for his first of the season to make it 6-3 and send the fans home with a treat. If the Terriers score 6 goals at home this season, everyone in attendance receives a free sandwich from McDonald’s.

Portage out shot the Blues 40-22 and finished 1/4 with the man advantage. Portage is currently first in the standings with a record of 9-1. They are now off for Thanksgiving and will return to action Friday Oct. 14 in Swan Valley against the Stampeders.
