Terriers One Win Away

Portage steals a 3-1 win in OCN last night to bring themselves one won away from winning the Turnbull Cup for the third straight season.

After losing games 1 and 2 in OCN, the Terriers were looking for a different outcome in game 5 after having success at home.

The first 20 minutes were scoreless as Portage was unable to convert on three powerplay opportunities and the Blizzard didn’t have any great scoring chances.

The second would be a different story as Ty Barnstable found the back of the net just :49 in to the second frame on the 2 on 1. 8 minutes later on the powerplay Mackenzie Dwyer found mesh on a one timer for a 2-0 Terriers lead that left the packed Gordon Laithlin Memorial Centre quiet.

With some pressure and the extra attacker, Justin Nachbaur scored the Blizzard’s first and only goal beating Kurtis Chapman on a scramble in front.

OCN came out in the third looking to even the score, but the Terriers were solid and put the game out of reach with an empty netter from Ryan Hendrix with 1:07 to go in the game.

Kurtis Chapman picks up the win and the Terriers take a 3-2 lead in the series with their third straight win. Portage will be looking to close out the series at home on Wednesday at 7:30pm.
