Terriers Win in Shootout

Portage played host to the OCN Blizzard last night at Stride Place in their last meeting of the regular season. The Terriers were off to a great start and led for most of the game, but started to sit back in the second and third and let The Blizzard back in the game.

Jeremey Leipsic opened the scoring burying a Turner Ripplinger rebound 5:11 into the first period.  Nick Doyle doubled the Terriers lead with his 5th of the season, beating a screened Boily with a slapshot from the blueline.

Portage’s 2-0 lead would carry through the second frame despite the Terriers letting up.

Rookie forward Tony Apetagon scored an unassisted marker early in the 3rd to get OCN on the board. With Ripplinger in the box, Bruce scored the tying goal for the Blizzard going 5 hole on Petersen.

With the game undecided in regulation they headed to a 3 on 3 5 minute overtime.  Although each team had their chance to end the game, Petersen and Boily came up big in the extra frame to force the shoot out.

Leipsic scored the only goal of the shoot out with Petersen stopping all 3 Blizzard shooters to pick up the 2 points.

Petersen stones Hebert in the shootout.

Portage sits in 2nd place one point ahead of Virden. The Terriers head to Wayway this Sunday for an afternoon game, 4pm
