Terriers Receive Boost From The Geno Fund

The Portage Terriers received their first grant on Wednesday night of $320 from the Geno Romanow Legacy Fund. The fund was established with the Community Foundation of Portage and District by Geno’s daughter Lisa after his passing in May, 2020.

The cheque presentation was made during the first intermission of the Terrier home game against the Niverville Nighthawks. CFPD members Cornell Pashe and Gail Patterson, along with Geno’s daughter Lisa presented the cheque to current Terrier trainer Gisele Sutherland and Marketing Director Cody Buhler.

Geno was a dedicated individual who faithfully worked for the Terriers for almost 50 years in a variety of roles including trainer and equipment manager. He was passionate about the players and making sure everyone had what they needed. This is why the proceeds from the fund go towards equipment and/or dressing room upgrades.

The Geno Romanow Legacy Fund is still accepting donations. The money donated stays permanently endowed and the earnings are annually gifted to the Terriers.

The family challenges all alumni who ever received a stick from Geno, to donate the cost of one stick to the fund, to help it grow.
