Terriers’ rookies edge Oil Caps in exhibition

Dickenson scores to give the Terriers a 3-1 lead in the 2nd.

The Terriers kicked off the preseason last night at home with a 5-2 win over the Virden Oil Capitals.

In a game that saw both teams dress their rookies, the Terriers were off to an early 2-0 lead after 20 minutes with goals from Redekopp and Pierce.

The Oil Caps would find the back of the net just 1:22 in to the second with a goal from Korytko to cut the Terriers’ lead to one.

The Dogs would score the next three with Dickenson, Martin and Roy contributing. The Oil Caps would pull within 3 at 6:16 of the 3rd, but the Terriers would come away with the win.

Wesley Ellingsen would start in net for the Terriers and face 14 shots, making 13 saves. Brock Aiken entered the game at 10:04 of the second and faced 18 shots making 17 saves. Paul Harland seemed happy with the play of both rookies.

“I think they both made some big saves and played well. In the 3rd period there we were giving up a quite a few shots and I thought Brock was really good, and I thought Wesley was really good too.”

The Terriers will head to Virden on Tuesday for a rematch in their second preseason game as they head toward the regular season.
