PORTAGE, October 5, 2025 – A solid team effort saw the Portage Terriers defeat the Winnipeg Monarchs 5-0 in the Monarchs’ first visit since their rebrand this summer.
Rhett Platt would tap in the team’s first powerplay goal since the season opener, after Drayden Uhrina and Trevor Hill completed two cross-ice passes. The goal was Platt’s fifth of the season, and third on the the powerplay. Ben Bugeaud would be the the benefactor of a rebound at the side of the goal to bang home his second of the season, making it 2-0 Terriers through 20 minutes.
Wyatt Dreger would add his second goal in as many games with a mid-range shot that beat the traffic and the goaltender to make it 3-0, where it would stay through the second frame.
Dreger shares his feelings on getting the offence going. “Feels great, to be honest. It’s nice seeing them going in the back of the net.”
Adam Belzil would notch his first this season, with a puck that squeaked across the line early in the third period, to extend the lead to four.
Belzil notes that it was a result of some great teamwork. “It’s teamwork, right? Ryker made a great pass to me, and then I just put it in, so it was good.”
Daine Dellezay would also crack the scoresheet, with another drop pass that found him in the slot, and that would wrap up the scoring, 5-0.
Ryan Velan stopped all 17 shots that came his way, but he says the win was all about the team. “It’s a team shutout, so a great job by the boys. But it feels great to get the win.”
The team gets some time off now to rest before their big trip to The Pas to face off with the Northern Manitoba Blizzard for a pair of games over the weekend. The games will be heard on CFRY, with puck drop each night at 7 p.m.
