The holiday break didn’t seem to slow the offence for the Portage Terriers, as the Dogs doubled up the Dauphin Kings by a 6-3 score.
The Terriers picked up right where they left off from the first half of the season, as Trevor Hill notched his 24th goal of the season on a beautiful cross-crease pass from Drayden Uhrina.
Rhett Platt would make it 2-0 with a quick snapshot off the back bar just a minute later, tallying his 19th of the year.
The Kings would respond with a pair of goals in short order before Trevor Hill added his second of the night, a ridiculous deflection that beat the Dauphin netminder over the shoulder to make it 3-2. It would stay there after 20 minutes.
Hill would notch the hat-trick in the second frame, making a nice move to create some space between the goalie and the post, and back-handed the puck short-side. 4-2 Portage after the second frame.
Uhrina tallied assists on all three of Hill’s goals, and says it feels good to get back in the win column.
“That’s a huge win. They (Dauphin) are a good team, especially coming off the long break. Hopefully we keep the momentum going.”
The Kings would make it close near the end, making it 4-3, but a sweet wrister from Declan Siwicki, and an empty netter from Platt would ice it, 6-3 the final score.
Platt outlined the importance of their unit all pulling in the same direction.
“Playing with these two, it’s easy to get some points and rack it up. I mean, just fit your role, and do it to the best of your ability, that’s all you can do.”
The Dogs will return to action Sunday when they hit the road to face the Virden Oil Capitals.
