Terriers Struggle Against Oil Capitals

PORTAGE, NOVEMBER 15, 2025 – A long night for the Terriers started with an early goal against, and the night didn’t get much better from there; the Terriers fell 9-4 to the Virden Oil Capitals.

Some miscommunication early in the period saw Virden notch the games first goal 22 seconds into the game. Portage wouldn’t take it lying down, as Edward Knittig redirected Dylan Karran’s shot from the point to tie the game at 1. Rhett Platt would score his 12th of the season on a play close to the net, and it was 2-1 Portage after 20 minutes.

The floodgates opened in the second period, but not in a good way for the Terriers. Virden scored three powerplay goals in the first four minutes of the frame, thanks to a major penalty and game misconduct to Dylan Karran. Then they added a fourth unanswered goal just before the halfway mark of the frame. 5-2 Virden through two periods.

The third period went much the same, with the Terriers adding goals from Breck Hirrschoff and Ben Bugeaud, but the Oil Capitals added another four to finish the game, totalling 9-4.

The Terriers will look to put this one in the rear-view mirror, with a Wednesday-night matchup against the Neepawa Titans at Stride Place. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
