The Portage Terriers picked up their second win of the preseason on Saturday night beating the Neepawa Titans 6-3.
The Terriers iced a more veteran laden lineup with eight 20-year-old players and it showed throughout the night. As the team gets closer to the start of the regular season the lineup is starting to get solidified and the returning players are trying to find their rhythm.
After a quick Titan goal in the second, it would be newcomer Ryan Williamson that would get the Terriers on the board. He scored his first of the preseason on the power play. From High River, AB, Williamson comes to the team with a Terrier connection; he is related to Terrier Alumni Tanner Jago.
The Terriers took their first lead of the night late in second period off a nice tip from Evan Lachimea. He started last season with Portage before being moved to the SIJHL. Since returning to the Terriers this season, he has been on fire, scoring 4 goals in the preseason. The Terriers let in a couple of late goals and found themselves down 3-2 after two.
Portage took things over in the third period scoring four straight goals. Rookie Reyd Langan scored his second of the preseason before 20-year-olds Adler Johnston, Cam Bullinger, and Nolan Nenow scored their first.
Portage outshot Neepawa 32-29 and finished 2/4 on the power play.
The Terriers are 2-1 in the preseason and will wrap up the exhibition schedule Sunday night in Virden against the Oil Capitals. These two teams will face each other again in the regular season opener on Sept. 21 in Neepawa.
