Terriers Take Exhibition Game Over Titans

The Portage Terriers remain undefeated in preseason action with a 4-3 win on Friday night over the visiting Neepawa Titans.

The Terriers struck early as Thomas Kaufield scored in the first two minutes assisted from Ethan Tinevez. Portage played a largely veteran lineup and it showed. 20-year-old forward Logan Calder gave Portage a 2-0 lead halfway through the frame.

The second period started just like the first, with Portage finding the score sheet early. Ethan Tinevez grabbed his second point of the night when he scored on the power play. Kaufield netted his second goal 10 minutes later to put Portage up by four.

Returning goalie Chris Fines started the game for the Terriers and stopped all 17 shots he faced. Ty Hogue took over the Portage net halfway through the second and faced some adversity. Kieran Thiessen and Mitchell Thiessen scored less than a minute apart to cut the lead to two.

Neepawa would add one in the third to make the game close, but Hogue shut the door when it mattered.

Portage will play the Titans Saturday night and then Virden on Tuesday before the regular season opens on Sept. 18.
