Terriers Add Two

The Portage Terriers have traded D Kian Calder (02) to the Estevan Bruins (SJHL) for F Brenden Holba (03) and future considerations.

Portage has also acquired D Daron Cyr (02) from the Calgary Canucks (AJHL) for future considerations.

Calder was called up during the 2018/19 season and was part of the group on route to the 2019 Turnbull Cup Championship. He then made the Terrier lineup full time in 2020-21. He picked up five points in eight games before the season was shutdown due to COVID. He was then loaned to the Cowichan Valley Capitals (BCHL). Calder started this season with two goals and 28 PIM in six games.

Holba (5’9” 185) made the leap this season to the SJHL and got into one game with the Estevan Bruins. The Regina product was a teammate last season of current Terrier Austin McLean with the Regina Pat Canadians U18 AAA. “Holba is a hard working physical forward” explains Terrier GM and Head Coach Blake Spiller. He was originally drafted 30th overall by the Nipawin Hawks (SJHL) in the 2018 Bantam Draft.

Cyr (5’11” 185) skates well and is expected to play some key minutes this season for the Terriers. He played 13 games with the Canucks in 2020-21. This season he had two points in three games at the time of the trade.
