The Portage Terriers kick off the 2020-21 MJHL regular season tonight when they visit division rivals, the Virden Oil Capitals.
The Terriers and Oil Capitals met twice during the preseason with Virden winning 5-1 in the rookie game and 5-4 in their final meeting. The Oil Capitals have a strong core of returning players including Hunter Cloutier who had 65 points in 55 games last season. They have also added dynamic forward Connor Geekie. The 16-year-old was the second overall selection in the WHL bantam draft and is a player who has NHL aspirations.
Tonight will be the first game for a young Terrier squad with only 6 returning players. Veteran forwards Reece Henry and Jacob Piller will be looked upon to provide the scoring punch and they will be aided by new comers like Rhys Raeside, Tyson McLean and Ryan Hofer. Puck drop tonight is at 7:30 pm and you can catch all of the action on CFRY and Portageonline.com.
