Portage Terrier captain Owen Witt has committed to play for Niagara University (ACHA) for next season. The 20-year-old defenceman is playing his third and final year with the Terriers and is excited for the new opportunity. “I decided on Niagara because of the location and opportunity for a great education,” says Witt. “They also have a very strong hockey program.”
Witt (5’9, 170) has seen his role and production increase throughout his time with the Terriers, going from 18 to 27 to currently 31 points. Not only has he made an impact on the ice, but he’s been involved off the ice as well. He was recently named the RBC Community ambassador prior to the game on Feb. 20.
Hockey will be an important part of his University experience, but education is the priority.
“I’m studying criminal justice and will be a volunteer firefighter there as well,” says Witt.
Before he starts his collegiate career, he will be working hard to end his time with the Terriers with a league championship.
