Terriers Defeat Blizzard

The Portage Terriers picked up their third win of the season on Sunday night beating the OCN Blizzard 3-1. Portage was able to take advantage of a Blizzard club who was playing their third game in as many nights.

Terrier goalie Gavin Renwick made 29 saves in his second start as a Terrier. He was happy with the way his team played in front of him.

“Everyone was battling for a full 60 minutes. We’ve been struggling with our starts lately, but that was a good bounce back for us.”

Gabriel Laflamme opened the scoring for Portage in the first period when he banged home a loose puck in front of the net. It was his fourth of the season. 1-0 Terriers after one.

The Terriers power play has started slow this season, but seemed to work out the kinks in the second period. Nathan Lenoski cleaned up a rebound in front of the net and was excited to score his first of the season.

“It feels awesome. It’s nice to get the monkey off the back, but mainly it was nice to get the win,” says Lenoski.

“We had a tough fought battle against Winkler and we knew we could win, and we came out tonight and proved that. We need to fix some of the little things and then we should be good to go.”

Grant Dardis added a third goal for Portage early in the third period to put the game out of reach. Lucas De La Salle scored one for OCN late in the third period to ruin the shutout bid, but it would be too late to start a comeback.

The Terriers finished the night 1/7 with the man advantage. They are back on the ice Wednesday night when they host the Virden Oil Capitals at 7:30.
