Terriers Shut Out Stampeders in Game One

The Terriers started off the MJHL Turnbull Cup Final with a confident win over Swan Valley tonight in front of a crowd of over 1600.

Portage jumped out to the early lead with a powerplay marker from Joey Moffatt 7:09 into the first, going post and in from the top of the circle.

Portage carried the lead into the 2nd where they spent a good part of the period on the penalty kill. Peterson came up big with a solid game in net for the Terriers.

The line of Ocean Wiesblatt, Kolton Shindle and Reece Henry had a great game going up against Swan`s top line of Tripp, Goethals and Osadick.

Still a one goal game in the third, Buchholz wins the battle behind the net, dishing the puck to Brakel who blind backhands the pass to Barnstable in front who buries his 3rd of the postseason.

Swan pulled their goalie with just 2 minutes to go in the third looking to get on the board, but Brakel slammed the door shut with the empty netter for a 3-0 Portage final.

Peterson picks up his 8th win of the post season with a 34 save shut out. Portage’s powerplay was 1/3 while shutting down Swan’s 4 opportunities.

Portage hits the road to Swan Valley this Sunday for game 2. Puck drop is set for 7:30pm, you can tune in to Hockey TV or listen to the game on CFRY 920 with Cody Buhler.
