Portage Extends Win Streak to 10

Portage welcomed the Wolverines to Stride Place last night for their third meeting in a week, the Terriers coming out on top in the last two match ups.

The Terriers hit the scoreboard first 5:30 into the opening period, the recipient of the puck at the blueline, Funk toe drags the D and goes backhand on Labelle for his 16th of the season.

The Wolverines tied the game at one, Lee burying Bilka’s rebound on the 2 on 1 with 6:33 to go in the game.

Heading into the 2nd tied at one, Morgan Poirier tees up a pass from Buchholz at the ringette line to score his first goal as a Terrier against his former team.

The Wolverines had their chances in the 2nd with 3 powerplays and outshooting the dogs 11-5, but Portage would take a 3-0 lead on a powerplay marker from Reece Henry.

The third was a mix of goals and penalties as Portage scored another 3 – Ocean Wiesblatt, Barnstable, Orca Wiesblatt, while Fenton and Bestul scored for the Wolverines. With tempers flaring a total of 65 minutes were handed out including ejections to Krauter and Murray for fighting.

Moore records the win in net with 24 saves and Portages’ powerplay was 2/4.

Portage sits firmly in first place 9 points ahead of Swan Valley.

Next up the Terriers head to Virden on Friday to face the Oil Caps. The two last met December 5th with Virden winning 5-3.
