Steinbach Hands Portage Their Second Loss

Portage was on the road tonight for their first meeting of the season with the Steinbach Pistons. Down early in the first, the Terriers were unable to come back from the 4-0 deficit.

Steinbach scored early and often leading by 4 just 12:01 into the first. Former Terrier Brendan Martin opened the scoring slipping the Terrier D to find himself in alone scoring backhand on Moore. Captain Tyson McConnell tipped a Williams point shot for his first of the night   Both Martin and McConnell would score again in the first, Martin on the powerplay. That would end the night for Nathan Moore in net.

Steinbach’s McConnell completed the hat trick 1:09 into the 2nd with a 5 on 3 powerplay. The Terriers were able to settle in to the 2nd pressuring the Pistons and controlling a lot of the play in the offensive zone. Kolton Shindle found himself alone in front with a nice pass from Howard, beating Radomsky for Portage’s first of the game and his 2nd of the season.

Calder takes the puck to the net.

Brady Tatro potted one more for the Pistons for their 3rd powerplay marker of the game. Howard notched his 3rd of the season with :14 to go in the frame, but that was as close at the Terriers would come.

The 3rd was scoreless both teams trading chances, with Portage killing 3 more penalties. Jackson Tonnies and Max Neill squared off late in the third both tossed for the tussle.

Minor faces multiple shots on the Pistons’ powerplay.

Nathan Moore takes the loss letting in 4 goals on 8 shots. Minor backing 29 of 31 shots. Portage going 0 for 3 on the powerplay.
