Terriers’ Captain Brakel Commits to Cornell University NCAA Div 1

The Portage Terriers organization is excited to announce the commitment of 98F Chase Brakel to Cornell University for 2018-19 season.

The Terriers first round pick in the 2013 MJHL draft, and current captain, will join former Terrier teammate 96D Cody Haiskanen with the Big Red.

“Chase has been a key piece to our success the past couple seasons. He is a consistent player who takes pride in competing in all 3 zones. He is our leader and goes about his business the right way both on and off the ice. He had a chance to play in USHL this season but felt the MJHL was his best opportunity to continue to grow as a player and get a D1 scholarship.” – Coach Blake Spiller

Excited for the next chapter in his hockey career Brakel feels his time in Portage helped him reach this point.
“I’m excited and proud to be going to a school like Cornell. Cornell has amazing academics and an excellent hockey program. It’s always been my goal since starting junior hockey to play Division 1 College.  This is a dream come true for me and it wouldn’t have been possible without the help of everyone in the Terriers organization.” – Chase Brakel
