The Portage Terriers are pleased to announce that they have signed Head Coach and GM Blake Spiller to a three year contract extension.
“We are thrilled to have Blake back for his 20th season as Head Coach and General Manager. Blake’s passion for the game, dedication to the organization and outstanding coaching record drives the success of the Terriers year after year,” says Terrier president Dave Koroscil.
“We would also like to thank Paul Harland for his 19 years as associate coach. Paul is retiring from coaching, but will remain with the organization as Assistant GM.”
Spiller came to the Terriers as an assistant coach with Don MacGillivray in 2001 and then took over as head coach in 2006. Since taking over, the Terriers have won the MJHL League Championship 8 times, the ANAVET cup twice and the Royal Bank Cup in 2015. Spiller has won the MJHL Coach of the Year award four times and the CJHL Coach of the Year title three times.
“I’ve always considered it an honour to coach The Portage Terriers. The executives as well as all the behind scenes people do an outstanding job of helping things run smoothly,” says Spiller.
“Our staff will remain the same with the exception of Paul Harland who will step back from the day to day coaching. It has been most enjoyable and rewarding working with and being behind the bench with Paul for the past 20 years. It would be difficult to find an organization that has had the longevity that we have had together. Anyone who has played here knows how much Paul has been such an important part of the success our team has achieved. With that we are very fortunate that Paul will remain with our staff in an Assistant GM position.”
“I look forward to continue working with Paul and all of our staff with the goal of ensuring we put a quality product on the ice as well as in the community.”
