PORTAGE, Sept. 28, 2025 – The Portage Terriers have begun their first win streak of the season, with a 4-1 victory over the Winkler Flyers.
A couple passes set up a powerplay goal for the Flyers to get the scoring opened, but Rhett Platt would answer on a goal that was tipped multiple times on the way to the net. 1-1 after 20 minutes.
Victor Proulx and Ben Bugeaud would score a pair of goals in quick succession early in the second period, for Bugeaud his first of the season. Trevor Hill would hammer home a one-timed shot a few minutes later to make it 4-1 Portage through the second frame. Shots were 37-10 for Portage at that point.
A scoreless third period did not come without excitement, but Portage hung on to the third period lead, and took the first victory in the season series against the Flyers.
Trevor Hill earned the Klean King Hardest Working Player for the second time this season, and says he’s enjoying getting a chance to contribute.
“It’s been very good. I’ve been supported by my teammates a lot. It’s helped me get acclimated to the culture very quickly. Coming in, I wasn’t expecting to be here, but I’m so happy to be here. My teammates have been helping a lot with me producing, and I can’t be more grateful.”
Platt earned Player of the Game honours for his three-point effort, but says the points aren’t really on his radar.
“It feels good, obviously. I prioritize winning and stuff, but it definitely helps with the wins. I mean, I’ve been playing with great guys so far, right? (Trevor) Hill and (Jonah) Lemoine, it’s easy to play with those guys, get open, they’ll get you the puck and find some success there. So, it’s been really good to start.”
The team takes to the road for the second time on Wednesday night in Niverville. The game will be broadcast on CFRY, and puck drop is at 7:30pm.
