A two-goal game from Trevor Hill powered the Terriers to a 4-0 win over the Winnipeg Monarchs on Saturday night.
Hill would notch the game’s first goal after some scrambling in the offensive zone. Shots from Rhett Serfas and Rhett Platt would be stopped by the Monarch goalie, but after some persistence, Drayden Uhrina made a pass across the crease to a wide-open Hill, who netted his 11th goal of the season.
A discussion by the Monarch players would result in pausing the game to fix a hole in the ice with just over 4 minutes of play remaining. The ice crew would fix the hole, and the game would resume after the intermission.
No more scoring occurred in the first period, which was followed two minutes later by the start of the second period.
Breck Hirrschoff would add to the scoring with low a short-side snipe to make it 2-0 just over three and a half minutes in.
He notes that it felt good to put one away after a bit of a struggle through the first quarter of the season.
“Yeah, it’s been a while since I put the puck in the net, but it feels good to help the team out and get the confidence back a little bit.”
A long shot from Wyatt Dreger would extend the Terriers lead with just under 6 minutes to play in the middle frame, to make it 3-0 Portage.
Trevor Hill added a second goal in the third on the powerplay to make it 4-0 in the end.
He notes what has contributed to his strong season.
“Obviously, I’ve got some great players around me who help feed me the puck. It’s just following the structure that the coach has put together and capitalizing on our opportunities.”
Ryan Velan wasn’t very busy, but stopped all 16 shots he faced for his third shutout of the season. The Terriers are back in action next Friday against the Dauphin Kings.
