The Portage Terriers got back to their winning ways on Wednesday night, shutting out the Neepawa Titans, 2-0 at Stride Place.
The Terriers started strong in the first period out shooting the Titans 17-9. Midway through the first, Ryker Thomas got the Terriers on the board tapping in a shot that squeaked through Neepawa goalie Zach Burleigh. Despite two late Neepawa penalties, the Terriers were unable to score again and took their 1-0 lead into the second period.
The second frame was much like the first with Portage in control of the play. Drayden Uhrina chipped in a goal at the side of the net after Rhett Platt caused a turnover in the attacking zone. Platt now has points in 11 straight games. 2-0 Terriers after 2.
The Titans started to pour on the pressure in the third period and some of their best chances of the night came on a 5 on 3 power play. The Terriers held strong and Mitchell Kathler shut the door the rest of the way. He stopped all 38 shots he faced for his first shutout of the season.
The Terriers have moved into a tie with the Selkirk Steelers for third in the MGEU East Division. The Dogs are back in action on Saturday against the Waywayseecappo Wolverines and then Sunday against the Winkler Flyers. Both games will be at Stride Place starting at 7:30pm and 6:30pm respectively.
