Terriers Struggle with Nighthawks

The Portage Terriers lost their 8th in a row on Wednesday night, 4-3 to the Niverville Nighthawks. The story of the game was Niverville’s goalie Ben Chornomydz, as the Terriers put 50 shots on net, but couldn’t keep up with the defending national champions.

The opening frame saw Portage control the play pretty well, including forcing the Nighthawks netminder to make several ten-bell saves. But both teams exited the frame with no goals.

The Nighthawks notched a pair of goals near the middle of the second period less than a minute a part. Not to be out done, Matthew Campanella added his sixth of the campaign to bring the score back to a one goal game. 2-1 Niverville after 40 minutes.

The third period saw lots more chances for each team, as the Nighthawks ended up registering another pair of goals. Ben Bugeaud added a power play goal, and a late marker by Lucas Bailey brought the Terriers within one. But the Dogs weren’t able to even the score, 4-3 Niverville.

Portage will get backing game action on Friday night, hosting the Waywayseecappo Wolverines at 7:30 p.m.
