Bowles and Laforest Collect MJHL Monthly Awards

The Portage Terriers continue to dominate the MJHL, bolstered by an outstanding collection of players. Shawn Bowles of the Terriers was outstanding last month, earning him the RBC Player of the Month.

Bowles, 19, exploded for 19 points (6-13) in 10 games for the league-leading Terriers, who remain No. 1 in the CJHL’s weekly rankings.

Bowles, who hails from Elkhorn, sits third in team scoring with 56 points (21-35) in 47 games, only being outdone by his line mates, brother Brad Bowles and Zack Waldvogel, both prior recipients of this award.

When asked about Shawn, Coach Spiller had this to say. ” Shawn Bowles has really picked it up over the past couple months after battling through some nagging injuries early on. ”

Congratulations Shawn, the award is well deserved.

Also receiving MJHL accolades for the month of January is Justin Laforest.

Justin has emerged as the top goaltender for January. A runner-up for the award in December, the native of Carlton Place, Ont., continued his outstanding play, reflected in a perfect 7-0 record, which included three shutouts.

Laforest, 19, currently with a save percentage of .941 and 1.57 GAA.

Spiller sees Laforest as being strong all year, but crediting him as a big reason for our success over the past month.

Congratulations Justin!
