Tayem Gislason has become the second Portage Terrier from this season to announce his commitment to college hockey. He shares where he’ll be playing.
“I just committed to Ontario Tech University. It’s a USPORTS school here in Canada, so I’m pretty excited.”
Gislason will be joining a Ridgebacks team that finished their season with a record of 14-15-0. The team also saw their captain, Sean Ross, sign a professional contract in the East Coast Hockey League.
Gislason explains how the commitment came about.
“I had a couple of conversations with both of their coaches, and I really liked what they had to offer there. It’s a great school, great program. I talked to a few other guys that have been there already and they enjoy it a lot. It seemed a great fit and I’m excited.”
“We are very excited to welcome Tayem to our hockey program and to the Ontario Tech athletics family,” says Ridgebacks head coach Curtis Hodgins. “We have truly enjoyed getting to know Tayem thru the recruiting process and feel his personality and character will be a tremendous addition to our already strong culture. Tayem brings a nice mix of size and mobility, along with the ability to contribute on both sides of the puck and that will serve as a nice addition to our blueline group.”
Gislason spent a season and a half in Portage, where he played 86 regular season games, along with 16 playoff games, and scored a combined 60 points, with 13 goals. He was also named the captain at the start of the 2023-24 season.
