Terriers Add Defenceman

The Portage Terriers have acquired 19-year-old defenceman Mattie Boonstra from the Dauphin Kings in exchange for Future Considerations.

Terrier head coach and GM Blake Spiller is excited for what he will be able to do in a Terrier jersey. “He has very good skills. This will be a good opportunity for him to come in and be an important player for us.”

Boonstra played most of last season with the Transcona Railer Express (MMJHL) and posted 18 points in 39 games. The Garson, Ontario product has shown flashes of offense. In his final season in the MAAA U18 league he had 63 points in 46 games for the Eastman Selects.

He was drafted 72nd overall by the Medicine Hat Tigers in the WHL Bantam Draft in 2016 and 32nd overall by the Steinbach Pistons in the MJHL Draft.
