Terriers Fall To The Kings

A tight game went against Portage in their second matchup with the Dauphin Kings this season, as they fell 3-2 to the MGEU West Division leaders.

A pair of goals were scored in the opening period, including Portage scoring on their first shift.

Adam Belzil put a shot on net that Kings netminder Cole Sheffield never got a good look at, to open the scoring 23 seconds into the game.

Cayden Glover would score his league-leading 18th goal of the season on shot from the side of the goal.

A single powerplay was assessed through the rest of the period, but no more goals, leaving it 1-1 after the first frame.

The Terriers started the second period on the powerplay, thanks to a late call against the Kings.

Cayden Glover would score his second of the game after some significant zone time following a powerplay.

Portage’s Cam Bullinger would answer 30 seconds later, as a rebound came free in front of the goal. Bullinger’s 12th of the year would tie the game at 2, where it would stay through the second frame.

A goal on the powerplay was the Terriers undoing in the third period, and an obstacle too great to overcome, as the Terriers lost 3-2.

Special teams played a big role, as Portage couldn’t muster much on the powerplay in this game, going 0/4. The penalty kill was pretty good, killing 6/7, but the last stop was the most important, which Portage couldn’t get.

The Terriers will have to forget about this one and return to the ice on Sunday night against the Selkirk Steelers. Puck drop is at 6:30pm.
