The Portage Terriers have announced that their captain Kian Calder has won the Joe Sponarski Playoff MVP award.
The 20-year-old played big minutes throughout the post season. His eight points in 12 games was tied for 3rd among defencemen in the MJHL. He also led Terrier defencemen during the Centennial Cup with six points in six games (2G,2A).
“Kian definitely matured and improved as a player in the past couple seasons,” says Terrier head coach and GM Blake Spiller. “He did an excellent job as captain both at the rink and in the community.”
“The award is an honour. I just tried to do anything I could to help the team win and found some success,” says Calder. “We had a lot of guys battle through a ton of adversity during the playoffs and I’m proud of the guys who put it all on the line throughout our push. We obviously didn’t get the result we wanted and that’s going to sting for a while.”
Calder finished his Terrier career with 72 regular season games, 21 goals and 29 assists over four seasons.
